Memory cards can make a good extension to your hard disk

If you need more hard disk space than your laptop can offer, an alternative to an external USB hard drive is a small and inconspicuous SD card, assuming a suitable slot is available.

They allow you to store photos and documents in an easily portable way, without having to carry an additional hard drive. However, cheap memory cards are best avoided.

Hardware experts recommend opting for brand name goods with a higher write speed. The memory cards should be capable of at least 30MB per second – otherwise, there is a risk of long waiting times when working with large amounts of data.

The expert says buyers should stay away from cards that do not provide speed information. Also bear in mind that SD cards will be unable to match the read and write speeds of a good external SSD drive.
