SCBA chief sees govt link to Prof Mahbubullah attack

It could not be possible for miscreants to attack Prof Mahbubullah, a pro-BNP former teacher of Dhaka University, without signals from the government, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Khandaker Mahbub Hossain today alleged.
“We think Mahbubullah came under attack as he made comments against the government in television talk shows,” he said while speaking at a protest programme at the SCBA auditorium this afternoon.
Khandaker Mahbub said the criminals attacked an intellectual person like him despite law enforcers’ presence on the Supreme Court premises.
“It is unfortunate that the law enforcers have not taken any effective steps to arrest the culprits even after 24 hours have passed since the incident,” the SC lawyer said.
“Police can identify the culprits from footage of close circuit cameras set up at different points at the SC premises,” he added.
Law enforcers are playing silent role in this regard which is very questionable, he alleged.
He demanded exemplary punishment to the criminals.
Prof Mahbubullah came under the attack yesterday while he was leaving the venue near the east gate of the SCBA Auditorium after attending launching of a book titled “Bangladesh: Emergency and the Aftermath 2007-2008,” written by BNP leader and former law minister Moudud Ahmed.
