SC fixes July 21, 24 to hear Khaleda's pleas

The Supreme Court today fixed July 21 and 24 for hearing four separate petitions filed by BNP Chief Khaleda Zia challenging a High Court verdict that cleared the way for running trial proceedings against her in two graft cases.

A five-member bench of Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Md Mozammel Hossain fixed the dates to hear the petitions filed connection with in Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases.

The court deferred till July 21 the hearing on two writ petitions that challenging the HC’s June 19 verdict, which rejected Khaleda's writ petition against the appointment of lower court Judge Bashudev Roy who framed charges against her in the cases.

The apex court also fixed July 24 for hearing two other petitions against another HC verdict passed on April 23 challenging the rejection order of two revision petitions against the indictment order against Khaleda and eight others by the judge.

The SC came up with today’s order after Khaleda's lawyer prayed to the court to adjourn the hearings of the first two petitions and Attorney General Mahbubey Alam prayed for setting a date to hear the last two petitions. 

Khaleda filed the four writ petitions with the SC on July 7.
