Satkhira BNP man held for ‘attacking Hasina convoy’ in 2002

A local BNP leader was arrested on charges of attacking the convoy of the then opposition leader Sheikh Hasina in Kolaroa upazila of Satkhira in 2002.

Rabiul Islam, joint secretary of Kolaroa upazila unit BNP and also chairman of Jugekhali union Parishad, was arrested from his residence around 9:30am, our Satkhira correspondent reports quoting Masud Karim, officer-in-charge of Kolaroa Police Station.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Satkhira on October 15 ordered to record the case in connection with the attack, the OC said.

The motorcade of Sheikh Hasina, now the prime minister, came under the attack on August 30 in 2002 when she was going to Jessore after visiting a raped woman at Kolaroa Upazila Health Complex.

Failing to lodge a case with the local police station, freedom fighter commander and AL leader Moslem Uddin filed a case with Satkhira magistrate court against 27 BNP men in connection with the attack, UNB adds.
