Rubel, Happy to go through DNA test

Rubel, Happy to go through DNA test

A Dhaka court today allowed police to carry out a DNA test of cricketer Rubel Hossain and film actress Naznin Akhter Happy to find out the truth over the rape allegation against the Bangladesh pacer.

Happy filed the case with the Mirpur Model Police Station under the Prevention of Women and Child Repression Act on December 13.

She filed the case against the cricketer for allegedly having an affair with her, whom he had apparently promised to marry.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mustafizur Rahman passed the order in response to a petition filed by Sub-Inspector of the police station Masud Pervez, also the investigation officer in the case, seeking its order for the DNA test.

Some samples have been collected from the Rubel’s Mirpur residence in Dhaka and sent those to the laboratory of Criminal Investigation Department for the tests.

DNA profile of a person can be detected from his or her hair, dresses, footprints, palm prints and saliva, among other things.

Earlier, Forensic Department of Dhaka Medical College handed over a report to Mirpur police, which claimed that film actress Happy was not raped recently.

Criticising the report, Happy told The Daily Star, “I have not said that I had physical relation with Rubel recently. I said that we were involved in a physical relationship for the last nine months as Rubel had promised to marry me.”

“When I raised the marriage issue on December 1, he refused to do so. Then I tried to solve the matter before filing the case. So there is no reason of getting a report of recent physical relation,” she added.

On December 15, High Court granted Rubel Hossain an anticipatory bail for four weeks in the case.
