Dristi celebrates Int'l Women's Day in Chittagong

Through honouring war heroine Roma Chowdhury -- who was brutally tortured and violated by the Pakistani occupational army at her village in Boyalkhali of Chittagong during liberation war -- Dristi, a leading organisation working culture in Chittagong, marked the International Women's Day in the port city on Saturday.
Writer of the book “Ekattarer Jononi” Roma Chowdhury, who graduated from Dhaka University, lost her husband and two children in the war of 1971.
Aiming at recalling the contributions of the women, Dristi organised the programme at Theater Institute, Chittagong (TIC) titled “Women, For You”.
The programme featured discussion, songs, recitation and dance performances.
At the beginning, Fulki Principal and Tagore exponent Shila Momen accorded Roma Chowdhury a reception by handing over a crest. Roma Chowdhury burst into tears as the full house stood up in respect to the war heroine. Later, a short clip on the life sketch of Chowdhury was screened.
Bilkis Rashed, Daisy Moudud, Prof Saheda Banu and Kamrun Nahar were also accorded honours at the programme, for contributions to the society.
Prof Hasina Zakaria, Dr. Zoinab Begum, Prof Anwara Alam, Dr. Basana Muhuri, Kohinur Kamal and Sharmin Hossain spoke among others at the programme.
The event ended with a cultural programme.
Artistes from Bodhan Abritti Parishad performed a group recitation at the programme as well.
