8 Rohingyas held while trying to flee Bhasan Char

Eight Rohingya refugees who were trying to flee from Bhasan Char in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali, were detained from Subarnachar upazila last night.

The detainees are currently in the custody of the Charjabbar Police Station," our Noakhali correspondent reports quoting Ziaul Haque, officer-in-charge of the police station.

Locals intercepted them in Subarnachar's Mohammadpur Union while they were fleeing by boat and informed the police, said the OC.

He further said that the matter was reported to the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) in Bhasan Char. Further legal action will be taken in this regard following decision by the RRRC.
