Several thousand Rohingya people today intruded into Bangladesh through Ulubania point in Teknaf of Cox's Bazar fearing of fresh persecutions in Rakhine of Myanmar.

"Over six thousand Rohingya Muslims intruded into Bangladesh this noon," a source at the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) told our Cox's Bazar staff correspondent.

The BGB members cordoned them off on Beri Badh of a shrimp farm and kept close vigilance so that they cannot proceed further towards the country, the source said.

Meanwhile, locals extended their helping hands to the Rohingyas with food, water and other life-saving materials.

A huge number of Rohingya people intruded into Bangladesh today, BGB Teknaf-2 battalion Deputy Director Meroj Md Shariful Islam Jamadar told The Daily Star without mentioning the number in this regard.

"We have been asked to handover the Rohingyas to our army so that they are taken to Balukhali camp at Cox's Bazar safely," the BGB official said

A group of Rohingyas said they have been forced to flee their country as they were being held hostage inside their own houses in Maungdaw area of Myanmar.

"Myanmar army has repressed us on our way to flee the country. They also snatched many valuables including gold ornaments from our possessions," one of the victims said.

Meanwhile, a press of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) today said that around 507,125 Rohingya refugees intruded into Bangladesh from September 30, following the persecution in Rakhine state of Myanmar since August 25.

At the same time, Bangladesh has been pushing Myanmar diplomatically to take back the refugees immediately.
