Rohingya held with fake notes worth Tk 18 lakh in Cox’s Bazar

A Rohingya man was held with fake Bangladeshi currency worth Tk 18 lakh from Ukhia upazila in Cox's Bazar last night.

Arrestee Enam Ullah, 25, a resident of Rohingya refugee camp No 19, our Cox's Bazar correspondent reports quoting police.

Quoting witnesses, Officer in-charge (OC) of Ukhia Polce Station Mohammad Abul Mansur said Enam rented a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and travelled different parts of the tourist city.

"At 8:00pm in the night, he got down off the three-wheelers at Palongkhali Station and gave a note of Tk 1,000 to the driver," the OC said.

When the driver realised that it was a fake note and asked about it, Enam tried to fled away the scene, sensing danger. But he was caught by the locals, the police official said.

Informed, police rushed to the spot and arrested him, he added.

They found fake Bangladeshi notes worth Tk 18 lakh after searching his body, OC Mansur said.
