Law Minister Anisul Huq today said Rohingya people were sexually assaulted in a tremendous extent when they had been in Rakhine State of Myanmar.

There is no such sexual violence on Rohingya people in Bangladesh as the government has put heed to their issues, he said.

The law minister told reporters after a meeting with Pramila Patten, United Nations (UN) Secretary General's special envoy on "Sexual Violence in Conflict" at his secretariat office this afternoon.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her personal initiative has given shelters and food to Rohingya people in Bangladesh, he said.

Steps have been taken under her (PM) instruction to reduce the trauma of Rohingya people in Bangladesh so that they can live in peaceful atmosphere, he said.

The law minister said some minor incidents like trafficking of Rohingyas had taken place but the government has tackled it with strong hand.

Therefore, such incidents of trafficking of Rohingyas are hardly taking place now, he added.
