OIC to extend cooperation for Rohingya repatriation

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has held Myanmar authorities responsible for atrocities on Rohingyas and reached a consent to extend all-out cooperation for the immediate repatriation of the forcibly displaced people from Bangladesh.

The consent came in the meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) held at the Jeddah Conference Palace of Saudi Arabia yesterday, a statement of the foreign ministry said today.  

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, who led the Bangladesh delegation, prominently highlighted the Rohingya issue in the meeting and sought all-out cooperation of the OIC member countries to put an end to the Rohingya crisis.

Momen, during the meeting, also addressed the issue of gross human rights violations of Rohingya people, terming it as crimes against humanity.

He also appreciated the Gambia-led initiative of taking the issue to the International Court of Justice for establishing rights and ensuring justice for the Rohingya people.

On the sidelines of the CFM, Momen also met his Indonesian, Malaysian, Brunei and Maldives counterparts and discussed the Rohingya issue for its quick solution.

He also held talks with South East Asian Cooperation Forum for economic integration in the region which is expected to be launched in Dhaka in June 2019.
