A mass wedding ceremony of a total 27 couples from the displaced Myanmar Rohinyas in Cox's Bazar has been held at the refugee camp in Ukhiya upazila.

The ceremony, arranged by international non-government organisation Care Bangladesh's camp site management, was held on Monday, March 25, reports our Cox's Bazar correspondent quoting Camp In-Charge Md Abdul Wahab Rashed.

"This is the first time a mass wedding ceremony is held in a camp," Rashed said.

Refugee Aid and Repatriation Commissioner (Additional Secretary) Md Abul Kalam inaugurated the wedding ceremony held at Thaingkhali Rohingya Camp No. 13 around 10:00am.

Chief Imam of the camp Maulana Nurul Islam conducted the mass wedding.

"Islam is the religion of peace. Therefore, no untoward incident or indiscipline will be tolerated at the camp. I wish all of you a happy and prosperous life," Commissioner Abul Kalam said.

Abul Hossain, one of the grooms, said, "We are very happy to be able to get married in such a beautiful arrangement. We would like to thank our camp in-charge and Care Bangladesh site management for arranging the mass wedding ceremony".

Everyone was served sweets after the ceremony.
