Robbers kill one, loot house

A man was hacked to death by a gang of robbers at Probakorpara village in Chatmohar upazila of the district early yesterday.
The victim was identified as Md Mojibar Rahman, 40, son of Akher Ali Pramanik.
Officer-in-Charge Subrato Kumar Pal of Chatmohar Police Station quoted family members as saying that a gang of 10 robbers stormed into the house of Mojibar at around 2:00am. They confined the family members in a room and started looting valuables.
As Mojibar tried to resist the gang members, they hit him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.
Hearing screams of Mujibar's family members, locals rushed to the spot, caught one of the gang members named Md Shukur Ali, 42, of Tantiband village in Sujanagar upazila of the district, while the rest managed to flee.
Locals beat up Shukur mercilessly. Being informed, police rushed to the village, arrested the robber and recovered Tk 20 thousand and gold ornaments from his possession.
Law enforcers also seized a shutter gun and two bullets from the spot.  Arrested robber is undergoing treatment at Chatmohar Upazila Health Complex under police guard.
Mojibar was admitted to Pabna Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at around 9:00am yesterday.
A case was filed with the police station, OC said, adding that they have launched a drive to arrest the rest of the gang members.
