Road crashes kill 9 in 3 dists

Nine people, including two members of a family and a couple, were killed and five injured in separate road accidents in Chittagong, Sirajganj and Dinajpur today.

Among the deceased, three including two schoolgirls were killed in Chittagong and as many in Sirajganj, report our district correspondents.  

Three motorcycle riders including a couple were killed in another road accident in Dinajpur.

CHITTAGONG

An iron rod-laden truck rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Sonaichhari village in Sitakunda upazila around 10:30am, killing a man and two schoolgirls.

The deceased are: Raujannatul Jannat, 9, and Ananya, 10, class III and IV students of Hafiz Jute Mill Primary School respectively, and Ananya’s father Zahangir Alam Babul, 40.

Of them, Jannat died on the spot while Ananya and her father were declared dead after they were rushed to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital, said Jakir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Baro Aulia Highway Police Station.

SIRAJGANJ

Three passengers of a pick-up van died on the spot when a stone-laden truck hit the van on Dhaka-Sirajganj highway in Hamkuria village in Tarash upazila around 4:30am, said Emdadul Haque, OC of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station.

Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, reports our Pabna correspondent.

The injured were taken to the Sirajganj General Hospital.  

DINAJPUR

Three motorcycle riders including a couple were killed when a Dinajpur-bound bus from Dhaka hit their motorcycle on Rangpur-Dinajpur highway at Ramdubi area in Chirirbandar upazila.

The deceased are: Md Rezaul Karim, 42, Md Moktar Hossain, 60, and his wife Jahanara Begum 50, of Ranirbandar village in Chirirbandar upazila.

Quoting witnesses, Rawshan Mostafa, OC of Chirirbandar Police Station, said the trio was going to Dinajpur Sadar upazila from Chirirbandar riding the motorcycle.
