Rizvi out on bail

BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was released on bail today two months after his arrest in an outlandish pre-dawn raid on the Nayapaltan headquarters of the party.
Rizvi walked out of Dhaka Central Jail around 5:40pm, a jail official told The Daily Star.
Earlier on Monday, the High Court granted bail to the BNP leader for six months in the four cases filed for vandalism and arson attacks.
Police in November last year filed the cases against him with Motijheel, Shahbagh and Ramna police stations on charges of vandalising vehicles, arson attacks and preventing police from discharging their duties during the anti-government movement of the BNP-led 18-party alliance in the capital.
During the raid on the headquarters of the BNP, plainclothes detectives assaulted Rizvi Ahmed and picked him up.
Witnesses said around 10 to 12 members of the Detective Branch of police climbed onto the balcony of the first floor of the office building using a ladder at 3:40am on November 30.
The cops then entered the floor by breaking the locks with a hammer and a cutting machine. They ransacked the rooms of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Senior Vice-chairman Tarique Rahman. The doors and furniture of those rooms were broken.
