Renowned film actor Rahman's 9th death anniversary observed

The ninth death anniversary of renowned film actor Abdur Rahman popularly known as Rahman was solemnly observed in Thakurgaon on July18.
Rahman Smriti Shangrakkhan Parishad(RSSP), Thakurgaon and Atwary branch jointly organised programmes, including a mourning procession and discussion in Thakuraon town.
The procession began from the grave of  Shaheed Mohammad Ali and ended at Thakurgaon DC office premises.
Later, a discussion was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office with Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Monjur Alam Prodhan as chief guest, Former mayor of Thakurgaon Municipality Chairman Akbar Hossain, educationist Professor Montos Kumar De and principal Syed Merazul Hossain were the special guests. President of Nayek Rahman Sriti Shangrakkhan Parishad, Thakurgaon branch chaired the event.    
Among others, president of Thakurgaon District Press Club Monsur Ali, president of Atwary unit RSSP Nazrul Islam Lichi and Touhidul Islam Chowdhury, addressed the gathering.    Born on February 27, 1937 at Roseya village in Atway upazila in Panchagarh, Rahman made his big screen debut as a villain in “Ei Desh Tomar Amar”, directed by Ehtesham. His performance in films such as “Talash”, “Chanda”, “Darshan”, “Jowar Bhata”, “Harano Din” and others made him one of the most popular actors in erstwhile East and West Pakistan. In fact, he was the only Bangalee actor-director who reigned supreme in the erstwhile West Pakistani film industry.
Rahman-Shabnam were a popular duo at the time. Soon after the Liberation Rahman continued his film career in Pakistan. “Chahat”, “Doraha”, “Lagan” are some of the films he made in Pakistan. Later, he returned to Dhaka and renewed his acting career.
“Milon” was his first film after Liberation. Following an accident, he made only a few appearances on the silver screen. He made his last appearance in the film “Aamar Shongshar” by Ashok Ghosh. He was the recipient of the prestigious Nigar Award in Pakistan.Abdur Rahman died of old-age complications on July 18 in Dhaka at the age of 68.
The speakers said that unless urgent steps are taken to preserve Rahman's  works, the icon of the country's film industry will disappear into oblivion.   
To kindle interest in his works, particularly among future generations, the government should take steps to observe Rahman's birth and death anniversaries, they said.   
They also called upon the electronic media especially private TV channels to air his films more frequently.        
People from all walks of life attended the programmes with enthusiasm.
