Remembering a creative mentor

'4th Dimension' and 'Phulkumar' screened in memory of Golam Faruque

Two films, “4th Dimension” by Nurul Alam Atique and “Phulkumar” by Ashique Mostofa were screened on Saturday at the Film Auditorium of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra as a tribute to the memories of multifaceted journalist and producer Golam Faruque. Jolchobi Pandulipi Karkhana, a group of then-young filmmakers made these touching movies in 2001, produced by Sub-text.

Three noted filmmakers of the country, Amitabh Reza, Nurul Alam Atique and Ashique Mostofa, initiated the film show to salute the departed soul of their recently-deceased mentor, Golam Faruque.

A noteworthy number of people from different sects of the literary and cultural front of the society joined the event. In a 30-minute interval between the films, a number of guests took turns to share their memories of Faruque, a friend, philosopher and guide to them all.

A memorabilia was also handed over to each of the guests.

Golam Faruque began his career with Bhorer Kagoj. He later became the founding editor of entertainment magazine Ananda Bhubon at the age of 28 in 1995. He also worked as the feature editor of The Daily Samakal, and was the chief programme producer at ABC Radio, before joining Daily Banik Barta as its managing editor. Besides, he was involved with theatre group Desh Natok, ad and filmmaking, and television, and was a creative mentor to many journalists and artistes of the TV and film arena. The younger son of Mymensingh lawmaker Advocate Moslem Uddin passed away on October 6, on his 48th birthday of a massive heart attack at his native home of Mymensingh, while on Eid vacation. He is survived by his wife Shaila Ahmed and only daughter Auritry.
