Rangpur-6 by-polls on Feb 20

The Election Commission (EC) today decided to hold the by-election in Rangpur-6 constituency on February 20.

The EC took the decision during a meeting at its secretariat, an election commissioner told The Daily Star seeking anonymity.

The Rangpur-6 constituency fell vacant when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was elected from Gopalganj-3 constituency as well, relinquished her membership of the constituency on January 8, three days after the parliamentary election.

According to the election schedule, the last date for submitting nomination papers is January 27 while scrutiny of the papers will be done on January 28. The last date for withdrawing the nomination papers is February 3.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad is supposed to announce the election schedule formally this afternoon, the EC official said.
