Rajshahi University School and College won the divisional round of English in Schools, a joint programme of The Daily Star and Robi, yesterday.
Harimohon Government High School of Chapainawabganj and Natore Government Girls High School were the first and second runners-up of the English competition respectively.
The three winning schools received bronze trophies, certificates, and English books worth Tk 10,000 each at prize giving ceremony held in Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium of Rajshahi University (RU). The winning students received a medal each.
Earlier, some 500 students from 25 high schools of Rajshahi, Natore and Chapainawabganj districts took part in two tests on general grammar questions, sentence structure, word composition, comprehension and listening tests in the competition.
Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, managing editor of The Daily Star, Prof Dr Muhammad Mizanuddin, RU vice chancellor, and Mohiuddin Babar, consultant at Robi, among others, spoke.
