A court in Rajshahi summoned BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman to appear before it in a defamation case for terming Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman a “top Razakar”.
Today’s case was the seventh lawsuit filed against the elder son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia after he maligned Sheikh Mujib in a programme in London on December 15.
Mizanur Rahman, president of Rajshahi University unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Awami League’s student wing, filed the lawsuit with a local court around 12:30pm.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jayanti Rani Das, after hearing, summoned Tarique Rahman to appear before the court on February 12, reports our Rajshahi correspondent.
On December 15, Tarique Rahman said Sheikh Mujib was a “top Razakar” for having banned the Awami League himself dubbing it a party of thieves.
In three of the seven cases, respective courts in Chittagong and Dhaka have issued arrest warrant against the BNP leader who has been living in London for several years.
