Prothom Alo editor, joint editor asked to appear before SC

The Supreme Court yesterday summoned Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman and its Joint Editor Mizanur Rahman Khan to appear before it on January 5 in connection with a contempt of court petition.

SC lawyer Sirajum Monir filed the petition for running the article, “Prodhan Bicharpati Bechhe Neowa” (Selection of the chief justice) by Mizanur Rahman Khan yesterday.

The apex court heard petitioner's lawyer Rokanuddin Mahmud and senior attorneys Mahmudul Islam, Ajmalul Hossain and Attorney General Mahbubey Alam on the issue.

An eight-member bench of the Appellate Division of the SC, headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain, also issued a show-cause notice to the two journalists.
