Prosecution to challenge life sentences

Prosecution will challenge the conviction of six Huji men who were sentenced to life term imprisonment in Ramna Batamul carnage case.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the verdict, Public Prosecutor Abdullah Abu said they will go to the higher court.   

After over a decade, a Dhaka court today awarded death penalty to eight Huji men including its chief Mufti Abdul Hannan and sentenced six to life term imprisonment for killing 10 people in bomb blasts during the Pahela Baishakh celebrations at Ramna Batamul in 2001.

While asked about the five absconding convicts, the process is underway to arrest the convicts who are on the run, the prosecutor said.
