Attorney General Mahbubey Alam today prayed to the Supreme Court to give death penalty to Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee in all the cases proved before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) -1.

He made the prayer while placing concluding arguments on the appeal in connection with the crimes against humanity cases lodged against Sayedee.

The ICT-1 on February 28 last year awarded death penalty in two charges although the eight charges were proved against him.

On March 28, Sayedee filed an appeal with the apex court seeking acquittal from the charges and the government side on the same day submitted a separate appeal to the SC demanding capital punishment in all the eight charges.

Today, a five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain fixed Sunday for hearing concluding arguments from the defense.

The attorney general today told the apex court that the ICT-1 has given capital punishment to Sayedee as he was directly and indirectly involved in the crimes against humanity committed during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.

Sayedee was involved in the incidents like killing, looting at Pararhat, raping of female and converting Hindu people into Muslims in Pirojpur area, Mahbubey Alam said.

The attorney general said that the prosecution witnesses have given factual statement before the ICT-1 about the criminal offences committed by Sayedee and there was no confusion about the statement.
