Expressing satisfaction over the verdict that awarded death penalty to BNP leader MA Zahid Hossain Khokon, prosecutor Zead Al Malum today said the people of Faridpur, victims’ families and prosecution are happy with the judgement.

The verdict has unveiled the true face of the war criminal, the prosecutor said while giving his reaction at the tribunal premises after the verdict was delivered this afternoon.

Talking to reporters, another prosecutor Mokhlesur Rahman Badal said the International Crimes Tribunal-1 today ordered the Inspector General of police and the law enforcement agencies to arrest the death condemned Khokon Razakar.

Replying to a query from the journalists, the prosecutor said they were unawares about the whereabouts of Khokon. However, they said that the execution of the verdict can be carried out after the arrest of the war criminal.

“As we capable to prove the charges without any doubt, the tribunal awarded death penalty in six charges while giving 40-year jail in four others charges,” Badal said.

Khokon Razakar, vice-president of Nagarkanda unit BNP and a Jamaat-e-Islami campaigner before that, went into hiding in 2011 after he took oath as a mayor following the municipality elections held in that year.

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 found him guilty in total 10 out of 11 charges levelled against him. Khokon has been acquitted of one charge as allegation brought against him could not be proved.
