Primary school teacher shot dead in Kushtia

The headmaster of a government primary school was gunned down in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia early today.

Robiul Islam, 48, was headmaster of Mohendrapur Government Primary School.

He was one among the three owners of MMR Brick Kiln in the upazila, reports our Kushtia correspondent.

A group of four to five miscreants shot Robiul at point blank range in front of his Mohendrapur house when he was returning from his brick kiln at about 1:45am, said Lutfar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kumarkhali Police Station

He died on the spot as two bullets pierced his chest, the OC said.

Soon after the incident, police detained one of his business partners, Wahidul Islam, in the area.

Robiul might have been killed due to a conflict over the brick-making business, the OC said. “They had a serious row over the ownership of the kiln,” he added.

According to police, Robiul was cousin of Munshi Rashidur Rahman, BNP joint secretary of Kumarkhali upazila unit who was killed by criminals on December 8, 2013.

Munshi Rashidur was one of the partners of the MMR brick kiln and Robiul bought his partnership after his death.
