NSU launches Learning Management System (LMS), CANVAS as the first university in Bangladesh

Dr. Dipu Moni, MP, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Education, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest at the virtual launching ceremony of “CANVAS Learning Management System (LMS)” at North South University (NSU) today. Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), NSU, Mr. M. A. Kashem was present as the Special Guest. Among others, Freedom Fighter Lion Mr. Benajir Ahmed and Chairman of The City Bank Limited, Mr. Aziz AI Kaiser, Members, BoT, NSU were present as Guests of Honor. Dr. M. Ismail Hossain, Pro Vice-Chancellor, NSU and many others were also present at the virtual program. The session was chaired by Professor Atiqul Islam, Vice-Chancellor, NSU and moderated by Mr. Jamil Ahmed, Director, Public Relations Office, NSU.

North South University has made an agreement with CANVAS, which is world-renowned as a Learning Management System (LMS). World-renowned universities such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Oxford, and Cambridge have been using CANVAS teaching methods for a long time. With the introduction of this system, North South University will be the only university in Bangladesh to use the "CANVAS Learning Management System." It will be possible for students, teachers, administration, and parents to formulate, preserve, conduct classes, evaluate in different ways openly and transparently using this integrated platform. CANVAS is a student, teacher, parent, and management-friendly system that works online and in the classroom.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Education, Dr. Dipu Moni said, "I am glad to know that, North South University (NSU) has made an agreement with world-class education management system "CANVAS Learning Management System (LMS)" and through this event they are launching the LMS system. Undoubtedly, this initiative is a great pleasure for the students, teachers, and parents of NSU and I am happy to share this happy moment with all of you through this virtual. The quality of education of this university, qualifications of teachers, employment rate of graduates, number and quality of research and publications have been gaining special recognition in the regional and global rankings among the universities of the country. I am glad to know that world-renowned universities like Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Oxford, Cambridge and more have been using CANVAS Learning Management System for a long time. With the introduction of this system, NSU will probably be the only university not only in Bangladesh but also in South Asia to use Canvas for the first time. When Corona outbroke on the March last year, educational institutions were unable to continue the classes. NSU has successfully completed the ongoing three semesters through online classes and assessments. NSU has used technology in education systems, classrooms, administration, and infrastructure from long ago. With the introduction of the CANVAS, North South University took themselves to a new height by using more advanced and effective teaching methods.

Speaking as the Special Guest, Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Mr. M. A. Kashem said, "NSU has always been providing all kinds of facilities and conducted classes by international standard teachers to provide international quality education to the students. I am very proud that, NSU to be the first among the universities in Bangladesh and South Asia as well to introduce a world-class CANVAS Learning Management System - LMS". At the same time, he mentioned that in the last three semesters, a total amount of almost Tk. 102 crore has been waived as tuition fees to help students of NSU during Corona pandemic. He mentioned that, there are more than 100 Ph.D. faculties in NSU who have the capacity to teach at Ph.D. programs. During this time, he requested the Honorable Minister of Education to give permission to offer Ph.D. programs at NSU."

Vice-Chancellor, NSU, Professor Atiqul Islam said, "NSU has never put a cap on how much can be spent on research, it is limited only by the number of meritorious research proposals. And the number of researches of NSU faculties is more than any universities in the country. NSU is committed to provide international standard education, for this reason, NSU is always prompt to adopt any new technology which is used by renowned universities of the world. In continuation of that, NSU launched Canvas Learning Management System which will help to make online teaching and learning experiences more efficient."

Among others, Deans of different schools, Directors of various departments, Department Heads, senior officials, teachers, students and alumni of NSU were also connected at the virtual program.
