BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today alleged the government of dishonouring woman in the parliament, and said the ruling Awami League can never show due respect to the countrymen.

Mentioning that prime minister’s Special Envoy HM Ershad termed women as show piece in the parliament though 50 percent of the total population are women, the BNP chief said, “Women are being dishonoured by the self declared opposition party in the parliament.”

The former premier made the allegation while addressing an iftar programme organised by Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh at city a hotel this evening.

“We repeatedly say that our prime minister is a woman, speaker is a woman, deputy leader of the house, opposition leader are all women. But they are showpieces. It is not the same outside,” Ershad said in the parliament last Monday while participating in the budget session.

In her brief speech, Khaleda Zia also said the ruling Awami League can never strengthen democracy in the country.

She also called upon the people to be united for the greater interest of the country’s development and democracy.

“An exclusive general election will have to be held in a free and fair manner to take the country forward,” the former premier observed.
