The High Court has sought explanation from the government in four weeks why Tangail’s Awami League (AL) lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana should not be granted bail in freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case.

The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Abdul Awal and Justice Md Khasruzzaman came up with the rule following a petition filed by Rana, now in jail, seeking bail in the case.

Earlier on Sunday, the HC fixed today (January 18) for passing an order after hearing a bail petition filed by him.

Amanur, the AL lawmaker from Tangail constituency-3 surrendered to a Tangail court on September 18 last year in connection with the killing case.

Amanur and his three brothers later were expelled from the district Awami Legaue on charges of various allegations.

On January 18, 2013, freedom fighter Faruk, also a district AL leader, was found dead. Later, a murder case was filed against the crime.

MP Rana and his three younger brothers--Jahidur Rahman Khan Kakon, former president of Chambers and Commerce in Tangail; Shahidur Rahman Khan Mukti, former mayor of Tangail municipality and former general secretary of Tangail City Unit of AL; and Saniat Khan Bappa, former vice-president of central unit of BCL -- are among the 14 charge-sheeted accused in freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed killing case.
