BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today strongly condemned the government for blaming the party’s several senior leaders including Tarique Rahman for the August 21 grenade attack incident.

“Implication of our party’s Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman and other senior leaders with the August 21 grenade attack incident is politically motivated,” Fakhrul said while talking to reporters at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of Dhaka this afternoon.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia along with many leaders of her party’s newly-formed full-fledged committee went to the grave and paid tributes there.

Everyone knows that Tarique Rahman’s name was not in the charge sheet of the August 21 grenade case. Later, his name was included in the supplementary charge sheet, Fakhrul said.

“We want fair trial of those involved in the grenade attack incident through proper investigation,” he said.

Earlier, Awami League has waged a movement to protect the country’s democracy and rights of people, Fakhrul also said.

“Now the party is heading towards autocracy and one party rule,” he added.

BNP firm against Rampal power plant

Fakhrul said his party has taken a strong stance against the Rampal power plant for the sake of the country’s overall interest, including the ecological balance.

“We want both electricity and power plant without ignoring our national interest and destroying natural beauty of Sundarbans,” Fakhrul said.
