Awami League today nominated Joya Sengupta, wife of recently deceased senior leader Suranjit Sengupta, to contest Sunamganj-2 by-polls scheduled to be held on March 30.

On behalf of Joya, her son Suwmen Sengupta collected the nomination paper from Awami League chief Seikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office last Friday.

The constituency (Dirai-Shalla) felt vacant following death of Suranjit Sengupta, a veteran parliamentarian, on February 5 after a prolonged illness.

Besides, Awami League’s Parliamentary Board and Local Government Nomination Board also nominated Anjum Sultana Simi for Comilla City Corporation election scheduled on the same day.
