The Supreme Court today upheld a High Court order that granted bail to BNP leader Mosaddak Ali Falu in a vandalism case.

The four-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, came up with the order after dismissing an appeal filed by the government challenging Falu’s HC bail order.

M Masud Rana, a counsel for Falu who is an advisor to BNP chief Khaleda Zia, told The Daily Star that his client may not get release from jail following the SC order since he is now in police custody in connection with two other cases.

Police filed the case against the BNP leader on January 28 with Mirpur Police Station on charge of vandalising vehicles and preventing law enforces from discharging their duty.

Following a bail petition filed by Falu, the HC on April 12 granted his interim bail in the case and issued a rule upon the government to explain why he would be granted regular bail in this case.
