Salahuddin’s wife flies to India

Hasina Ahmed, wife of BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed who is facing a criminal charge in India for trespassing, has returned from India to collect documents and papers relating to her husband's disappearance, party insiders say. File photo.

Hasina Ahmed left Dhaka for the Indian state of Meghalaya this evening to visit her husband BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed at a Shillong hospital.

“Hasina and two others left Dhaka by an Air India flight for Kolkata around 9:20pm. From Kolkata, they will board another flight for Meghalaya,” Ghyusuddin Ahmed, elder brother of Salahuddin, told The Daily Star.

He said they got Indian visas earlier in the day.

They applied for the visas on Wednesday, a day after her husband called her from a mental hospital in Shillong and requested her to bring him back home as early as possible.

On Monday, a Shillong police spotted the BNP leader loitering in the Golf Link area of the tourist city, around two months after he had been allegedly picked up by plainclothes law enforcers from a house in Dhaka's Uttara area on March 10.

Salahuddin is now receiving treatment at the Shillong Civil Hospital.
