US Embassy becomes ‘mouthpiece’ for BNP: Joy

Prime Minister's ICT Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy yesterday said it seems that the US Embassy in Dhaka has become a 'mouthpiece' for the BNP.

He said they (US Embassy) are parroting BNP claims about the recent election in Gazipur and emphasising irregularities, while making absolutely no comment on the BNP's attempt to cause violence in that election.

"The current US Government has a strict policy of not interfering in the internal affairs of other countries, so this is just the local Embassy's opinion," Joy said on his verified Facebook page.

He said as usual, the Embassy officials have been spending too much time with their BNP friends.

Joy mentioned that there were irregularities in nine polling centers out of 425, which is just 2.1%.

The Election Commission suspended polling in those centers and canceled the vote, which is exactly what they are supposed to do.

"Our new Mayor Jahangir Alam received double the votes of BNP's Hasan, a margin of over 200,000 votes. All poll observers stated that the few irregularities could not have affected the outcome," Joy said.

BNP's Central Executive Committee leader Mizanur Rahman Mizan was recorded on the phone organising violence to make the election controversial, he added.

"The US Embassy makes no mention of any of this," Joy mentioned.
