BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said Unesco’s recognition to the historic 7th March speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is a matter of joy.

“This recognition is a matter of joy,” the BNP leader said.

Fakhrul’s came up with the remarks at a programme at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity this afternoon when the ruling Awami League was holding a rally to celebrate the Unesco’s recognition to the historic speech of the Father of the Nation.

He, however, criticised to the authorities concerned for reportedly closure of all schools and colleges for joining the rally.

On October 30, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) recognised the Bangabandhu's historic March 7 speech as part of world's documentary heritage.

Unesco Director General Irina Bokova announced the decision at the Unesco Headquarters, Paris.

According to the decision, Bangabandhu's 7th March speech has been included in the Memory of the World International Register, a list of world's important documentary heritage maintained by the Unesco.
