Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today underscored the need for enrolment of honest people in politics to ensure development and progress of the country.

“There is a lack of honesty in politics. Honest people will have to be enrolled in politics for its betterment,” Quader said while addressing a programme at Institution of Engineers’ Bangladesh (IEB) in Dhaka.

The programme was arranged marking the 29th founding anniversary of Sheikh Russell Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad.

No welfare will be done if dishonest people intrude in politics and become lawmakers and ministers, said Quader, who is also the road transport and bridges minister.

Claiming that the people have lost their trust in politics, Quader said, “We want to engage honest, qualified and meritorious people in politics to make it attractive to the people.”

The AL leader also called upon the students to read the ‘Unfinished Memoirs’ of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to be an honest man.

AL Advisory Council Member Mozaffar Hossain Poltu also spoke at the programme, among others, with Rakibur Rahman, president of the organization, in the chair.
