BNP today alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is trying to influence the court by making comments on Khaleda Zia’s under-trial Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

“The way prime minister made remarks on the under trial case [against BNP chief] is obviously an act of influencing the court. Does she [Hasina] think that giving punishment to someone depends on her will as the judiciary and administration under her control?" BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed said.

Speaking at a press conference at BNP's Naya Paltan central office, he also reiterated that there cannot be any election in the country with keeping Khaleda Zia behind bars.

Addressing at a reception programme in Germany on Friday, PM said Khaleda Zia will certainly be punished in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case if the court gets evidence and documents in this regard.

PM also said: “This is clear that she (Khaleda) embezzled the orphanage money. If the court has the evidence, she must be punished...they (BNP) won't allow the election to be held just to save a thief. What type of attitude is this?"

In the briefing, Rizvi criticised PM's comment saying Hasina and her party's top leaders are continuously spreading lies over the 'false and politically motivated' cases filed against the BNP chief.

Rizvi alleged, PM and the Awami League leaders' comment clearly manifested that they are hatching new plots against the BNP chief.
