Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today slated the media for not telling the truth about last year’s shooting of a Gaibandha boy allegedly by Awami League lawmaker Manzurul Islam Liton.

“The media didn't write the truth behind the incident,” Hasina, also president of Awami League, told the parliament.

“The fact is they [criminals] were lying in ambush there to kill him [Liton]. Liton fired blanks to protect himself. Why would he open fire to kill the child? Hasina said.

She made the remarks taking part in the discussion on a condolence motion on slain MP Manjurul Islam Liton and other distinguished personalities in the House.

On December 31 last year, Liton was killed by unknown assailants at his village home in Gaibandha.

Earlier on October 3 2015, Sourav Mia, a 10-year-old boy, was shot by the Gaibandha-1 MP and sustained injuries in his both legs.

“Why would he (Liton) open fire to kill the child?” the premier said.

The prime minister said Sourav's father is an Awami League man and Liton had good relations with that family.

“The media reported the incident in such a way that he [Liton] wanted to kill the child, the PM said.
