Olama League no affiliate of AL: Hasan Mahmud

Awami League (AL) Publicity Affairs Secretary Hasan Mahmud today said that Olama League does not have any affiliation with the ruling party.

"Some people introduce themselves as Olama League leaders. Actually, they are not any leader of Awami League. The organisation too is not AL-minded," he said while responding to a query at a press conference, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

Awami League organised the programme at its president's Dhanmondi office in Dhaka this afternoon.

"Some of Olama League members use AL's name to get benefits," said Hasan Mahmud.

On Saturday, Olama League, which claims to be an affiliate of AL, claimed that Pahela Baishakh celebration is 'haram' (forbidden in Islam) and not Islamic.

The Olama League claim drew huge outcry from different quarters of people and social media.
