BNP vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman today criticised the ruling Awami League for holding its “hugely expensive” national council and raised question over the source of money.

“Crores of taka are being spent for the council. When walking in front of the gate of the council venue, people are telling that it is ill-gotten money,” Noman said while speaking at a programme at Dhaka Reporters Unity in Dhaka.

He said the capital has been turned into a glittering city with lights ahead of the council. “But the light would not be able to extinguish the fire in people’s minds as the government has plunged in misrules.”

Youth Forum, a pro-BNP platform, organised the programme to commemorate BNP’s late standing committee member ASM Hannan Shah.

Noman also called upon the government to conduct a survey to feel the pulse of people over the “huge expensive council”.

Pointing at the BNP’s national council held in March, Noman said that even three days before the council police did not give them permission to hold the council at the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh.

On the other hand, Awami League has completed its arrangement including installing loudspeaker fifteen days ahead of its council on October 22-23, added Noman.
