Condolences pour in for Sahara Khatun

Tributes and condolences continued to pour in for veteran politician and presidium member of Awami League Sahara Khatun, who breathed her last while undergoing treatment at Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand last night.

Immediately after her demise, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed their deep shock at the death of the veteran politician.

President M Abdul Hamid expressed profound shock at the demise of Advocate Sahara Khatun, reports BSS.

Recalling her outstanding contribution to Bangladesh's politics with respect, Abdul Hamid in a condolence message said the death of Sahara Khatun is an irreparable loss to the national politics of Bangladesh as she was a tested leader of Awami League at its toughest times.

Being imbued with the ideals of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Sahara Khatun throughout her whole life worked to promote the spirit of the Liberation War and development of the country's democracy, president Hamid said.

"With her (Sahara) death, Bangladesh has lost a dedicated politician," the President observed.

Expressing shock at Sahara Khatun's death, the PM said, "Sahara Khatun, a soldier of Bangabandhu's ideals, worked all her life for people's rights and for establishing democracy."

"I've lost a trusted co-fighter," the PM added.

Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of the former home minister.

In a condolence message, the speaker prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Attorney General Mahbubey Alarm also expressed their profound shock at the death.

Jatiya Sangsad Deputy Speaker Md Fazle Rabbi Miah and Chief Whip Noor-E Alam Chowdhury also expressed shock at the death of Sahara Khatun.

Information Minister Hasan Mahmud Chowdhury, State Minister for Information Md Murad Hassan and State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury also expressed profound shock at the death of Advocate Sahara Khatun.

Awami League (AL) General Secretary and also Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader expressed shock and sorrow over the death.

He prayed for salvation of her departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
