BNP will take organisational steps against its lawmaker Jahidur Rahman Jahid for taking oath as a member of the 11th parliament today defying the party decision, its Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said today.

“If any lawmaker takes oath defying the party’s decision, BNP will take organisational step in this regard. As BNP MP-elect Jahidur Rahman from Thakurgaon-3 has taken oath as a member of the 11th Parliament, the party will take step against him,” Gayeshwar told reporters.

The BNP leader also said that Jahidur Rahman might be expelled from the party after being serving a show cause notice on the party’s disciplinary grounds.

The matter of Jahidur Rahman’s taking oath as a JS lawmaker is his personal decision, said Gayeshwar, adding that “those who take such decision cheating with people’s vote, they are public enemies”.

Earlier, BNP MP-elect Jahidur Rahman of Thakurgaon-3 took oath as a member of the 11th Parliament this noon, violating his party’s decision

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the swearing-in around 12:00pm at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban while Parliament Senior Secretary Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan conducted the oath-taking ceremony.

BNP led Jatiya Oikyafront got eight seats in the December 30 national elections. Of the total, Gonoforum, a component in the Jatiya Oikyafront, got two seats while BNP got six seats.

Both elects from Gonoforum have taken oath as a lawmaker after the alliance decided not to do so alleging widespread rigging in the national elections.
