49 elected uncontested for JS reserved seats: RO

All of the 49 aspirants who submitted their nomination papers for the reserved seats for women in the 11th parliament have been elected uncontested.

A circular will be issued in this regard in a while, Returning Officer Abul Kashem told The Daily Star this morning.

Yesterday was the last day to withdraw nomination papers. However, no one withdrew their candidature till 5:00pm yesterday, Abul Kashem said yesterday.

How are the reserved seats in parliament determined?

The reserved seats for women are allocated to political parties in proportion with their number of seats in the parliament.

Accordingly, 43 seats are allocated to Awami League, four to Jatiya Party, one to BNP and Jatiya Oikyafront, Workers' Party and independent candidates each.
