BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed today said that the newly appointed chief election commissioner should step down from his post.

“The chief election commissioner has close ties with the government and he was a leader of Janatar Mancha,” Rizvi said while addressing a programme in Tangail today.

The election commission has been formed with Awami League men ignoring the recommendations of the search committee and it is not possible for the commission to hold a free, fair and impartial election, he alleged.

“So chief election commissioner should step down from his post before the allegations against him swell up,” he said.

On Monday, President Abdul Hamid appointed KM Nurul Huda as CEC and four others as commissioners.

The five will take oath of office on February 15 at the Supreme Court Judges' Lounge.
