The Election Commission (EC) will observe National Voters’ Day across the country tomorrow to encourage the young voters for participating in the electoral process.

The EC will hold a discussion at its office on the day where President Abdul Hamid is expected to attend the programme as the chief guest.

EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed made the announcement at a press conference at his commission office in Agargaon area of Dhaka this evening.

Apart from the discussion, the commission will also bring out a colorful procession from Manik Mia Avenue in the morning to garner people’s attention for participating in the political process, he added.

There are now around 10.41 crore voters in the country and the National Voters’ Day is going to be observed with a view to create awareness among people about democracy, election and voting rights, the EC secretary said.

Field-level offices will also observe the day with due manner to make the efforts a success, Helal Uddin said.

Earlier in 2018, the EC placed a proposal to the government to mark March 1 as the National Voters’ Day, and a cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, approved the Election Commission’s proposal.
