BNP mayor candidate for the upcoming Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) elections, Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, today demanded army deployment in the city to ensure free and fair polls.

Army should be deployed three days ahead of the polls, Mosaddek said at a press conference held at the BNP office in Rajshahi city this afternoon.

The Rajshahi city polls are scheduled to be held on July 30.

If army is not deployed from today then there is no scope for a free and fair election, said Mosaddek.

The BNP mayor candidate also placed a seven-point demand to the Election Commission (EC).

He demanded for an end to the mass arrests of polling agents and activists of his party. Until now, 150 leaders and activists of BNP have been shown arrested, Mosaddek claimed.

Even though they were arrested from Rajshahi, many have been shown arrested from other districts such as Natore, Chapainawabganj and Pabna, he alleged.
