Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today opined that the “possible threat of militant attack” in the next general election will come down if BNP participates in the polls.

“We are in firm position against the menace of militancy but the threat will decrease if BNP participates in the next general election,” Quader said while talking to reporters at Kabirhat upazila in Noakhali, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

“The menace of militancy has not yet been eliminated and they are prepared to go for a major attack,” Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, expressed his grave concern.

Upholding the party’s religious fellow feelings, Quader said his government has initiated efforts to build around 560 mosques across the country following the model of Saudi Arabia.

The mosques will be used as a centre for practising religious culture, the Bangla daily reports quoting Quader.
