Referring to a recent observation of a Canadian Federal Court, lawmakers belonging to the treasury bench today blasted BNP for resorting to terrorism, anarchy and destructive politics with an aim of hindering the ongoing development initiatives of the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The MPs said the Canadian court, in the observation in a case, resolved that the BNP is a terrorist organisation and the party was involved in violence and vandalism during its indefinite shutdown programme against the Awami League-led government in Bangladesh.

They said the present government is relentlessly working towards advancing the national economy in a faster pace by speeding up development in all areas and bringing smile and peace for the common people of the country.

The lawmakers were taking part in the general discussion on the thanksgiving motion of the President Abdul Hamid's address to the House on January 22.

The MPs said the president highlighted different positive aspects in social, political and economic sectors that set Bangladesh in motion on the wheels of a faster growth.

Due to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's bold, dynamic and charismatic leadership, the government brought down the poverty rate and raised living standard of all to give a clear sign of achieving a middle-income status by 2021, they said.

The lawmakers said the government has already achieved success in various sectors like land, railway, communications, electricity, education, agriculture, women and children, health, science and technology, industries and human resources development.

They said Bangladesh is moving forward by overcoming all sorts of conspiracies against the government and the country is moving fast towards its goal with a sustainable development under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The MPs said Bangladesh would be a middle-income country before 2021 as PM Hasina earned worldwide appreciation for achieving an outstanding success in the field of development.

They paid heartfelt tributes to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders, martyred freedom fighters and also those who made their supreme sacrifices during the War of Liberation and all subsequent democratic movements in the country.

During their speeches, the lawmakers termed the President's speech a proper documentation of the government development activities on the basis of future plans to turn Bangladesh into a developed country by 2041.

Treasury bench members MA Malek, Begum Laila Arzumand Banu, Farhad Hossain, Abdur Rahman Badi, Gazi MM Amjad Hossain Milon and M Moslem Uddin took part in the discussion.
