Court will decide on Khaleda's release
Says law minister
The release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail is a matter of court's decision, Law Minister Anisul Huq said yesterday.
“... the court has sentenced her [Khaleda] in the [two corruption] cases against her. So, it's the court that'll decide about her release,” he said.
The law minister made the remark while responding to reporters' queries after he emerged from an orientation course for newly appointed chief judicial and chief metropolitan magistrates.
Anisul was the chief guest at the event held at Judicial Administration Training Institute in the capital.
In response to another query regarding whether the announcement of the schedule for the upcoming national election would be delayed, as requested by Jatiya Oikyafront, the minister said, “The Election Commission will take the decision in line with the constitution.”
Asked whether the polls-time government will have any representation from the Oikyafront, he said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will make the decision on the issue.
The prime minister has already said that the current government will carry on till the formation of the next government so the ongoing development works do not face any hindrance, Anisul added.
