Khaleda to sit with 20-party chiefs tonight

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has convened a meeting with the chiefs of the 20-party alliance tonight to discuss the upcoming municipality polls scheduled for December 30.

“The meeting will be held at Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office around 8:30pm,” Sayrul Kabir Khan, a staff of BNP chief’s media wing, told The Daily Star.

Talks over the country’s prevailing political situation may also take place during the meeting, he added.

“We will talk with our alliance chief Khaleda Zia to discuss whether we will take part in the upcoming municipality polls under our own party banners or under the 20-party alliance,” Jatya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) chief Shafiul Alam Prodhan, who is also a component of the alliance, told The Daily Star.

At a meeting last night, BNP decided in principle to participate in the municipality elections.
