BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today filed a petition with the High Court seeking bail in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case in which she was jailed for seven years.

In the petition, Khaleda said she has been suffering from different diseases including diabetes and dental problem.

She has already served two and a half years in jail in this case and therefore, she deserves bail in the case, Khaleda said in the petition.

The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman fixed Tuesday for holding hearing on the bail petition.

A Dhaka court on October 29 last year convicted and sentenced Khaleda to seven years’ imprisonment in the graft case.

The following day, the HC enhanced her jail sentence to 10 years’ imprisonment from five years in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.

Khaleda needs bail in these two cases for walking out of jail.

The BNP chief has been admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University since April 1.
